What’s up with vitamin D anyway?
With the transition to fall, we’ve had more questions regarding proper supplementation for fall and winter, so we thought some of you might find this information useful too!
First, we’d like to remind you that getting sick every once in awhile is OKAY. However, it’s not okay if it takes you days upon days to recover, or if you’re getting sick frequently. A simple head cold should be gone in 24 hours. If you find yourself struggling with this come winter, you may need to dive deeper into WHY you’re getting sick so frequently.
When it comes to vitamins we definitely have favorites and at the top of that list is Vitamin D (D3 to be precise).Vitamin D can help combat those “winter blues” and help build up your immune system so you are able to enjoy all the upcoming festivities! Vitamin D helps with so many things on the cellular level that we can’t even begin to list them all!
I once had a patient that told me her dad BONUSED his staff at Christmas time if they had optimal levels of Vitamin D according to their blood work… now that is someone who truly understands the benefits of Vitamin D.. and also knows his staff won’t be calling out sick for work very often! Feel free to implement this if you have employees.
According to the Vitamin D Council, you should take 1000 IUs daily for every 25 lbs of body weight. Generally speaking, most adults can take 4000 IUs daily. However, if you are deficient you might want to consider mega-dosing for a short period of time (ask your health care professional about proper dosing).
We recommend a D3/K2 combo for the best absorption. (If you have any blood clotting disorders, we recommend you consult your health care provider before taking a supplement with K2 in it.) We like Well Labs the best. There is no oily taste which makes it easy for even the little ones to take! Each drop of liquid is 1000 IUs, making this a super easy vitamin for everyone in the family!
